We had a great conference!
May 15-17, 2011
A new era brought in a change of venue for the Alabama/Florida Joint Technical Training Conference this year.
The Marriott Grand Hotel and Resort in Point Clear Alabama was the site of this year's Conference, hosted jointly by the Alabama Rural Water Association (ARWA) and the Florida Rural Water Association (FRWA). The FRWA and ARWA alternate as hosts every other year.
The participation in this year's conference in Alabama was excellent with an attendance close to 500, plus 57 exhibit booths filling the Exhibit Hall.
The conference offered an excellent opportunity for the participants to acquire CEH's or CEU's for Water and Wastewater or both. This year's topics on the Water side included:
• Electronic Metering
• Governmental Audits
• Battling Water Age through Artificial Demand
• Basic Pump Fundamentals
• Rate Making and Impact Fees in a Tough Economy
There was plenty to learn in the wastewater sessions as well:
• New Advances in UV Disinfection
• Biosolids Management
• Advantages of Primary Treatment
• Maximizing Performance of Wastewater Lagoons
• Effluent Filtration
• Nitrogen / Phosphorus Reduction

Gary Williams, FRWA and Dennis Harrison, ADEM spoke at the conference. ADEM provided updates on Regulations. These updates are vital as they address pending regulatory issues that may affect public water utilities in the future.
All of this learning does tend to increase ones appetite. That was not a problem at this Conference! There were lots of great meals, most served in the Exhibit Hall.
However, the most anticipated meal was the "Down Home Cooking" which included Barbeque, Fried Catfish, Baked Beans, Potatoes and Banana Pudding held at the Oak Hollow Farms in Fairhope.
Monday Evening - "DOWN HOME COOKING

We celebrated "DOWN HOME COOKING" on Monday May 16, 2011 at Oak Hollow Farms 14210 Greeno Road, in Fairhope, Alabama. (Just a short drive from the Grand Hotel)
Oak Hollow Farms (www.oakhollowfarm.net) is on 300 acres of timeless natural habitat unique to the Eastern Shore of Mobile Bay. Oak Hollow Farms will supply hayrides before and after dinner so plan on joining us for some family fun.
