Utility Superintendent
Town of Pine Hill

- REQUIRED:  High School Diploma required and applicable College Degree preferred.  Courses in advanced mathematics, science, computer skills and some engineering knowledge helpful.  Business management courses a plus. Also required:  excellent communication and management skills to relate to the public and other employees.
- REQUIRED:  Must live within the Pine Hill Police Jurisdiction or be willing to move here.
- REQUIRED:   Valid Alabama Drivers License and good drivers record.  CDL helpful.  Must pass a physical exam, background check and pre-employment drug test.  Random drug and alcohol tests will be required if hired.  Must abide by Alabama Ethics Commission rules.
- REQUIRED:   Must be willing to work nights, weekends, holidays, extended shifts and be on-call for emergencies.  Work outside in all types of weather with service crew performing water and sewer service work, and grounds maintenance.  Be able to do strenuous physical labor, including, but not limited to, using shovels and other such tools and heavy lifting.
- REQUIRED: To attend and complete classes and pass a Grade 4 Water Certification Test and Grade II Waste Water Certification Test.
- JOB SUMMUARY:  The Utility Superintendent manages and supervises all functions of the Pine Hill Public Works Department, including, but not limited to:  Water and Sewer, Streets Maintenance, Sanitation, General Maintenance of all buildings and grounds.  Superintendent is responsible for planning and coordinating work assignments with employees under his/her supervision and sees that all work is completed in a satisfactory and timely manner.  Superintendent will also be expected to do manual labor along with the other workers. 
Also, prepares budgets, monitors and approves expenditures and ensures that all reports and reporting activities are carried out as required by law.  Maintains positive public relations; receives and resolves complaints.  Attends all Council meetings and other meetings as required.  Reports directly to the Mayor. There will be other requirements and duties not covered here, including, but not limited to a 12 month probation period.
Benefits package will include Health and Dental Insurance, mandatory enrollment in the Retirement Systems of Alabama, paid sick leave, paid vacation leave and paid holiday leave based on length of service.  Salary will be based on experience.
There will be a written pre-interview test administered by the Alabama Career Center.

Possession of or ability to readily obtain a state-certified Grade IV license for water treatment, as well as possession of or ability to readily obtain a valid driver's license for the type of vehicle operated is required.

The City of LaFayette is seeking a qualified individual to serve as Superintendent of the City of LaFayette’s Water and Wastewater Plants.  The City operates a Grade IV, 1.2 MGD surface water treatment plant and a Grade III, 1.0 MGD wastewater plant.
The Successful candidate will need to posses a Grade IV water certificate and a Grade III wastewater certificate for Alabama.  The successful candidate should also possess considerable knowledge of surface water treatment plant and/or wastewater plants. The city requests that the candidate have 5 years progressively responsible experience at water and/or wastewater plants with at least 2 of those years in a supervisory position.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Walk or drives truck over established route and take readings of meters.

  • Maintain work truck and tools.
  • Troubleshoot site equipment, including but not limited to pumps, power units, process treatment system electrical, hydraulic and mechanical equipment.
  • Pulls motors and pumps for repair, to include wiring and fabrication of parts as necessary.
  • Replaces valves.
  • Maintain the grounds of all Winfield Water Works properties.
  • Cleans, repairs, and install sewer lines.
  • Operates backhoe, front-end loader, and tractor to cut grass.
  • Operates and maintains chemical feeders, chlorinators, sulfinators and polymer feed equipment.
  • Reads and records equipment hour meters and flow meters
  • Compiles daily activity log, makes copies and maintains files.
  • Collects samples and performs periodic and routine laboratory tests.
  • Maintains files of lab tests performed and methods used.
  • Communicate with other co-workers, customers or the public in a face-to-face one-on-one setting.
  • Selected applicant must be able to pass pre-employment drug screen and must have a clean driving record.
  • Ability to walk long distances in all weather conditions
  • Ability to bend, stoop and kneel frequently throughout the day
  • Ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions
  • Ability to work independently to complete assignments with specific time period or schedule.

Wastewater Treatment Plant
Grade II Operator

AQUIOM, LLC, has an opening for an experienced staff member to operate a 0.35 MGD domestic wastewater treatment facility located east of Dothan, AL. 
Applicant will be responsible for the daily operations and maintenance of the facility to include knowledge of process control procedures, limited on-site lab testing and be able to analyze and perform required operational adjustments to the system as necessary to meet regulatory standards.   Must also be familiar with OSHA Safety Requirements.  Daily inspections of lift stations and potable water wells is required.  Ground maintenance of the plant area also required. Alternating Weekend Shifts are required to be performed.  Facility is scheduled for operation with a lead operator and secondary helper.  Opening is for a full-time staff member but consideration would be given to a part time team member.
Must have, as a minimum, a high school diploma or a GED, Alabama Grade II or higher Wastewater Operator Certification, 2 years’ experience with a similar operation, and a valid Alabama State driver’s license.
