The lime storage facility and all appurtenances are available immediately, and can be viewed at the Bessemer Water Filtration Facility located at 250 Link Road, Bessemer, Alabama 35023. Grade II Utility Operator
Town Of Hodges

Grade II or higher certified water operator needed.   
- Must have knowledge in repairing leaks, operating machinery (backhoe), reading meters, making taps, and maintaining town properties. 
- Must have a good ethical work habit. 
- Subject to back ground check and drug testing. 
- Must be able to lift, carry, and or push 150 pounds with frequent lifting and/or carrying of objects weighing 90 pounds or more. 
- Must have a strong ability to follow oral and written instructions, which includes read, write, and perform mathematical calculations at the level required for successful job performance.  B
- Must be willing to work over time if needed, and be on call for emergencies. 
Pay is $17-$20 per hour, but this would be a salary position, based on 40 hrs. per week and knowledge.  Benefits include State retirement, BCBS health insurance paid for operator and part of family members, and AFLAC.  
Hodges Water is a ground source with a new filtration system installed this past year.  There is a clearwell at the spring, and 2 standing water tanks.  
Hodges is a very small town in Franklin County, Alabama with about 308 residents.  Local schools are at Hackleburg and Vina, some 7 miles away.

Grade IV Water Operator
City of LaFayette

The City of LaFayette is seeking a full-time Grade IV Water Plant Operator. The successful candidate will need to possess a current Alabama Grade IV Water Certificate.  The successful candidate should also possess considerable knowledge of surface water treatment with preferably at least two years of work experience at a Surface Water Treatment Plant. Applicant should be willing to work on weekends, nights, and holidays when assigned.  Lifting, shoveling and climbing ladders/stairs is required.

Construction Services Field Representative

Position Summary: Perform construction services related activities in the field including, but not limited to inspections, line locates, dunning, and repair

Essential Functions Statements:

  • Read and understand development maps.
  • Read and understand simple engineering and GIS maps.
  • Read and understand construction drawings and schematics.
  • Perform sewer line locates.
  • Perform force main and manhole inspections for new construction and existing developments.
  • Perform premise sewer tap and water lock out valve inspections.
  • Perform dunning related activities.
  • Troubleshoot and service residential grinder station issues.
  • Pull grinder station pump for repair or replacement.
  • Assist service department on as-needed basis

Certification: None.

Education and Experience: Either (a) graduation from high school or possession of a high school equivalency diploma and two years of experience in sewer construction, maintenance or operation; or (b) one year of post high school course work in construction or mechanical technology supplemented by one year of experience as noted in (a); or (c) a satisfactory equivalent combination of the foregoing training and experience.

Certified Water Plant Operator
Veolia Water North America

Operates and maintains water treatment, processing, disposal and testing equipment in water treatment facility to purify water to meet permit and operational requirements. This position works 12 hour rotating shifts, 7 days on and 7 days off.

Job Requirements

  • Ability to read, write and comprehend English (operational, process, safety and quality instructions).
  • Ability to perform basic mathematical calculations.
  • 6 months + experience in a related position and environment with knowledge of the methods, techniques, and practices of water treatment.
  • Ability to learn and independently operate equipment such as pumps, engines, centrifuge, generators, valves, gates, mixers, conveyors, blowers, dryers, chemical feed, disinfection equipment, measuring/control devices, testing equipment and material handling equipment.

Technician
Shelby County Water Services

Shelby County Water Services is accepting applications for Technician – Water Services. The work involves installation, maintenance, and repair of water meters, lines, and equipment. This position performs meter reading and operates water equipment.
 
To qualify for this position applicants must possess the Minimum Qualification of a High School Diploma or G.E.D. equivalent, one year of experience in the operation, maintenance and repair of potable water facilities, a valid Driver License and must be willing and available to be on call after hours and on weekends as needed and as required by supervision, willing to work in extreme weather conditions, work non-standard hours and more than 40 hours per week when required by supervision and willing to work at multiple locations throughout Shelby County as needed.
 
In addition to the minimum requirements, Shelby County prefers applicants to possess certification as a Grade 1 Operator by ADEM and a Commercial Driver License (CDL) Class A or B. Applicants hired without the CDL may be required to obtain a Class A or Class B License within six months of hire and continued employment may be contingent upon employee obtaining this license.

Service Technician II

Position Summary: Perform maintenance and repairs on distribution and collection systems, pump stations, wastewater treatment systems and related equipment. (Full time with Benefits)
 
Essential Functions Statements:

  • Assist and perform water and sewer line repairs, new line installation, taps, plant equipment repair.
  • Maintains work truck and tools.
  • Troubleshoots site equipment, including but not limited to pumps, power units, process and treatment system electrical, hydraulic and mechanical equipment.
  • Pulls motors and pumps for repair, to include wiring and fabrication of parts as necessary.
  • Replaces valves.
  • Assist with assessment, planning and execution of service orders including procurement and inventory.

Certification: Water/Wastewater Certi- fication not required, but is beneficial.
 
Education and Experience: High School education or equivalent is required and 1-2 years in mechanical or electrical troubleshooting and repair or con-struction.
 
Other Requirements: Must follow all company safety practices and pro-cedures. Basic computer skills.
 
Compensation: Average position compen-sation is $25/hr based on experience. Excellent benefits.
