The City of LaFayette is seeking a full-time Grade IV Water Plant Operator. Construction Services Field Representative

Position Summary: Perform construction services related activities in the field including, but not limited to inspections, line locates, dunning, and repair

Essential Functions Statements:

  • Read and understand development maps.
  • Read and understand simple engineering and GIS maps.
  • Read and understand construction drawings and schematics.
  • Perform sewer line locates.
  • Perform force main and manhole inspections for new construction and existing developments.
  • Perform premise sewer tap and water lock out valve inspections.
  • Perform dunning related activities.
  • Troubleshoot and service residential grinder station issues.

  • Assist service department on as-needed basis

Certification: None.

Education and Experience: Either (a) graduation from high school or possession of a high school equivalency diploma and two years of experience in sewer construction, maintenance or operation; or (b) one year of post high school course work in construction or mechanical technology supplemented by one year of experience as noted in (a); or (c) a satisfactory equivalent combination of the foregoing training and experience.

Certified Water Plant Operator

Operates and maintains water treatment, processing, disposal and testing equipment in water treatment facility to purify water to meet permit and operational requirements. This position works 12 hour rotating shifts, 7 days on and 7 days off.

Job Requirements

Duties and Responsibilities
A commitment to safety, providing reliable water and sewer services, protecting public health and providing excellent customer service are the responsibilities of job positions at Winfield Water.  We believe that teamwork, open communication, honesty, integrity, fairness, diversity and respect for each other are the essential traits to perform all job duties. All positions must be knowledgeable in repairing leaks, operating machinery (backhoe), reading meters, making water & sewer taps, and maintaining town properties.  Must have a STRONG ability to follow oral and written instructions, be willing to work over time if needed (nights and weekends), and be on call for emergencies.  Pay will depend on experience and certification.

  • Walk or drives truck over established route and take readings of meters.
  • Inspects meters and connections for defects, damages, & unauthorized connections.
  • Report leaks while reading.
  • Assist and perform water and sewer line repairs, new line installation, taps, & plant equipment repair.
  • Maintain work truck and tools.
  • Troubleshoot site equipment, including but not limited to pumps, power units, process treatment system electrical, hydraulic and mechanical equipment.
  • Pulls motors and pumps for repair, to include wiring and fabrication of parts as necessary.
  • Replaces valves.
  • Maintain the grounds of all Winfield Water Works properties.
  • Cleans, repairs, and install sewer lines.
  • Operates backhoe, front-end loader, and tractor to cut grass.
  • Operates and maintains chemical feeders, chlorinators, sulfinators and polymer feed equipment.
  • Reads and records equipment hour meters and flow meters
  • Compiles daily activity log, makes copies and maintains files.
  • Collects samples and performs periodic and routine laboratory tests.
  • Maintains files of lab tests performed and methods used.
  • Communicate with other co-workers, customers or the public in a face-to-face one-on-one setting.
  • Selected applicant must be able to pass pre-employment drug screen and must have a clean driving record.
  • Ability to walk long distances in all weather conditions
  • Ability to bend, stoop and kneel frequently throughout the day
  • Ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions
  • Ability to work independently to complete assignments with specific time period or schedule.

Technician
Shelby County Water Services

Shelby County Water Services is accepting applications for Technician – Water Services. The work involves installation, maintenance, and repair of water meters, lines, and equipment. This position performs meter reading and operates water equipment.
 
To qualify for this position applicants must possess the Minimum Qualification of a High School Diploma or G.E.D. equivalent, one year of experience in the operation, maintenance and repair of potable water facilities, a valid Driver License and must be willing and available to be on call after hours and on weekends as needed and as required by supervision, willing to work in extreme weather conditions, work non-standard hours and more than 40 hours per week when required by supervision and willing to work at multiple locations throughout Shelby County as needed.
 
In addition to the minimum requirements, Shelby County prefers applicants to possess certification as a Grade 1 Operator by ADEM and a Commercial Driver License (CDL) Class A or B. Applicants hired without the CDL may be required to obtain a Class A or Class B License within six months of hire and continued employment may be contingent upon employee obtaining this license.

Central Elmore Water and Sewer Authority

The Central Elmore Water and Sewer Authority are currently accepting applications for a Grade IV Water Treatment Operator at their plant located near Eclectic. The plant is a 12 MGD U.S. Filter Microfloc package plant. Job duties would include plant operations, maintenance, sludge processing, and housekeeping. Shift work is on a rotating schedule which includes day shift and night shift, seven days on and then seven days off.
