Alabama Rural Water Association

The ARWA has an opening for the position of Special Services Representative. The position will involve problem solving assistance and training for water and wastewater utilities in areas of financial, technical and managerial operations. This will require management experience as well as strong organizational and communication skills. The successful candidate must possess the following qualities and experience in the water and wastewater industry.

- Must have a minimum of 5 years experience working with a water or wastewater utility or other company with direct involvement with utilities and their operation

- Must have experience and a good understanding of successful utility management including all areas of financial, technical or management

- Water and Wastewater Operator Certification is not required but additional consideration will be given to a candidate with a minimum level of Grade II Certification

- Must possess written and oral communication skills

- Must be a fluent computer user, familiar with Excel, Word, PowerPoint and other software programs

- Must be willing to travel the State extensively and must have a valid drivers license. Very limited out of State travel.

- Must be capable of public speaking

Grade II Water Operator
Town of Wilton

Grade III Wastewater Operator
Ozark Utilities Board

The Utilities Board of the City of Ozark is seeking applications for an Alabama Grade III Wastewater Operator. The hourly wage will range $17.03-$24.06. This position performs daily operation and maintenance duties at wastewater treatment facilities and sewage pumping stations at the direction of the Wastewater Treatment Supervisor. Essential Functions Statements:

  • Read and understand development maps.

Grade II Operator

Grade II or higher certified water operator needed. Must have knowledge in repairing leaks, operating machinery (backhoe), reading meters, making taps, and maintaining town properties.
Must have a good ethical work habit. Subject to back ground check and drug testing. Must be able to lift, carry, and or push 150 pounds with frequent lifting and/or carrying of objects weighing 90 pounds or more. Must have a strong ability to follow oral and written instructions, which includes read, write, and perform mathematical calculations at this level required for a successful job performance.
Must be willing to work over time if needed, and be on call for emergencies. Pay is $17-$20 per hour, but this would be a salary position, based on (40} hrs. per week and knowledge.
Benefits consists of State retirement, BCBS health insurance paid for operator and part of family member's paid, and Aflac.
Hodges water is a ground source with a new filtration system installed this past year. There is a clearwell at the spring, and (2) standing water tanks.

Essential Functions Statements:

  • Assist and perform water and sewer line repairs, new line installation, taps, plant equipment repair.
  • Maintains work truck and tools.
  • Troubleshoots site equipment, including but not limited to pumps, power units, process and treatment system electrical, hydraulic and mechanical equipment.
  • Pulls motors and pumps for repair, to include wiring and fabrication of parts as necessary.
  • Replaces valves.
  • Assist with assessment, planning and execution of service orders including procurement and inventory.

Certification: Water/Wastewater Certi- fication not required, but is beneficial.
Education and Experience: High School education or equivalent is required and 1-2 years in mechanical or electrical troubleshooting and repair or con-struction.
Other Requirements: Must follow all company safety practices and pro-cedures. Basic computer skills.
